The Spaceman cometh

While his former group hovers and puts plans together for a new tour, founding KISS guitarist Ace Frehley has released a new song called “Rockin’ With The Boys.” The video can be seen below.

Rockin’” is the second song Frehley has made available from ‘Spaceman,’ his forthcoming new album, due October 19. The first single, “Bronx Boy,” was released in April. Frehley says he wrote the original version of “Rockin’ With the Boys” during KISS’s heyday in the ’70s.

‘Spaceman’ (the album title was suggested by Gene Simmons) is Frehley’s eighth solo LP and his first collection of new material since 2014’s ‘Space Invader.’ The album features eight new original tracks as well Frehley’s take on Eddie Money’s 1980s hit single, “I Wanna Go Back.

On the new album, Frehley has stepped out a bit: while his distinctive guitar sound won’t shock anyone, you might not have expected to hear that he also plays bass on most of the album. One of the exceptions where he is not the bassist is the album’s opener, “Without You I’m Nothing.” On this tune, listeners should easily recognize that the booming bass tone comes from none other than Gene Simmons. Simmons also co-wrote the tune as well as “Your Wish Is My Command.”

Frehley has had better success with his solo material than any other current or former KISS member. ‘Space Invader’ debuted at No. 9 on the Top 200 chart, making it the highest-charting position of any KISS bandmember. His first solo release, 1978s ‘Ace Frehley,’ went on to sell over one million copies, and produced the only Top 40 single, “New York Groove,” from any of the KISS solo albums.

Given Frehley’s popularity as a solo artist, that he and Simmons have put their past differences aside, and that he has reconnected with vocalist-guitarist Paul Stanley, everything seems to point to a reunion with KISS – something that would be a fruitful for all involved. However, both Stanley and Simmons have thrown water on that possibility.

3. Your Wish Is My Command
4. Bronx Boy
5. Pursuit Of Rock and Roll
