As far as releasing new music is concerned, has there been a band more prolific in the last few years than Cheap Trick? The band has released nearly 20 studio records, including three in the past two years, and are set for another new release.
Guitarist Rick Nielsen confirmed with radio station the Lazer 103.3 that yes indeed, the band is completing the last few touches on a new studio album to be released in late 2018 or early 2019. Nielsen said, “Robin [Zander] just finished the last of the vocals about three days ago, and I’m going in soon to finish the last three guitar solos.”
Earlier in the year, Cheap Trick released the scorching lead-off single, “The Summer Looks Good On You” (video below). The single, along with the new album, was co-produced by their long-time collaborator Julian Raymond. Raymond also worked on the band’s last three albums, 2016’s ‘Bang, Zoom, Crazy… Hello,’ 2017’s ‘We’re All Alright!’ and the holiday-themed release, ‘Christmas Christmas.’
The band has experienced a great deal of visibility and a bit of a revival in the last few years. In 2016 the band was inducted into the Rock And Roll Of Fame, the occasion marked one of the first times that former drummer and original member Bun E Carlos had played with the band since his exit in 2010. In addition to its busy studio, the band was also part of the recent ‘Nothin’ But A Good Time Tour’ with Poison.
Cheap Trick’s current lineup includes three of its original members, Neilsen, Zander and bassist Tom Petersson, along with Neilsen’s son Daxx on drums.
