If you were waiting to hear what the reunited Smashing Pumpkins had up their sleeves, wait no longer. The band have released its first single, “Solara,” which can be seen in the link below.
“Solara” is the first song by the band’s classic lineup and the first since 2000 to feature Billy Corgan, James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin.
Earlier this year, Corgan revealed some of the potential song titles,“Solara” being one of them. The band were in the midst of studio sessions with producer Rick Rubin and longtime collaborator Jeff Schroeder. Schroeder replaced original bassist D’Arcy Wretsky. The band said that it was hoping to release the material on two EP’s.
In one of the many interviews Corgan has conducted to create interest for the band’s tour and new music, he said, “It’s a bit akin to trying to rekindle a romance almost two decades later. The love is there, but, you know, is the language? Is the magic there?” It seemed to be, after the music “just poured out” and, he said, “pick[ed] up where this unit left off.”
The Smashing Pumpkins start their ‘Shiny and Oh So Bright’ North American tour on July 12 in Glendale, AZ; it runs through Sept. 9 in Edmonton. The shows mark the band’s 30th anniversary and feature material from across its catalog along with a selection of some of the new tracks.
