Motorhead’s Campbell preps solo album

A five-year wait appears to be over: MOTÖRHEAD guitarist Phil Campbell will release his debut solo album, ‘Old Lions Still Roar,’ later this year.

Campbell has been working on this album since 2014, and he made sure that he got help from some big names: he has recruited some high-profile vocalists to add their distinctive touches to the album. Guest appearances by Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) and Alice Cooper, among others, are featured on the album.

According to reports, the list of musicians on the album will also include, Chris Fehn (Slipknot), Benji Webbe (Skindred), Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses) and Whitfield Crane (Ugly Kid Joe).

With regard to the musical direction of the album, Campbell prepared fans for the unexpected. He said, “It’s not gonna be what people expect. I play piano on a few tracks. It’s not gonna be all totally like MOTÖRHEAD. It’s just nice to be able to do what I want, like put in a saxophone when we wanted and a piano and acoustics…”

He added, “I’m really happy to release my first solo album. I’m also honored to have mega talented guests and friends do their thing. Looking forward to everyone taking a listen!”

Campbell also has plans for writing a book. Apparently, he had the gist of it started a while back but had to put things on hold. He said, “I may do it one day, yeah. I just had too much pressure on last year, trying to make the Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons record, and the big shows we had, so I said, ‘I need to wait a little bit.'”

Campbell is joined in the Bastard Sons by his sons Todd, Dane and Tyla, plus vocalist Neil Starr. The group’s debut album, ‘The Age Of Absurdity,’ was released in January 2018.
