The music world was hit with sad news last week with the announcement that veteran rocker Eddie Money had been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer.
Money will be making an announcement on an upcoming episode of his TV show ‘Real Money,‘ however, the news was revealed by TMZ, along with a short clip from the show in which singer Money, 70, discusses the diagnosis. “I thought I was going in to get a checkup, and he told me that I got cancer,” Money says in the TV scene. His wife Laurie then explained: “It’s in his esophagus, the top of his stomach… it’s also spread to his liver.”
Money had previously canceled his 2019 touring plans after requiring treatment for pneumonia. He had also undergone heart surgery in the spring. Speaking about the diagnosis, Money said, “It hit me really, really hard, but I don’t want to keep the fact that I have cancer from everybody. It’s not honest. I want to be honest with everybody.”
He remains optimistic about the advancement in cancer treatment. “It’s come a long way. Not everybody dies from cancer like they did in the ‘50s and the ‘60s.” He added, “Am I going to live a long time? Who knows. It’s in God’s hands. But you know what? I’ll take every day I can get. Every day above ground is a good day.”
