If you’re getting ready for the upcoming live album, ‘The Purple Tour‘ by Whitesnake, the band are doing their part to also get you ready. They’ve just made available “Love Ain’t No Stranger,” – a new concert recording of their 1984 ballad. The new live album is due in stores January 19th, available on CD/DVD, CD/Blu-ray, vinyl and digital formats.
The tour commemorated on the album is centered around lead vocalist David Coverdale’s time from 1973-76 in Deep Purple, which coincided with the albums ‘Burn,’ ‘Stormbringer’ and ‘Come Taste the Band.’ It pays homage to Coverdale’s classic past, with a twist – rather than try to outdo the studio versions of songs fans already knew by heart, the band wanted to bring new life into the old songs. In an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, Coverdale insisted that the aim was always to put a fresh spin on old material rather than try to supersede the original recordings.
As far as other Whitesnake news is concerned, the band will return later this year with a new studio album tentatively titled, ‘Flesh and Blood.’ It will mark their first new material since 2011’s ‘Forevermore.’Coverdale was effusive in his praise for the new material: “We’ve never had so much positive material. We have 18 or 19 extraordinarily, potent, juicy classic Whitesnake songs, from balls to the wall to blues, to epics to ballads. It’s kick ass.”
In addition to the new live and studio albums, Whitesnake will be back on the road later this year, as part of a co-headlining package that features Foreigner as well as Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening. Here are the details and a list of currently announced dates.
