As hard-rock band Sixx:A.M. continues its prolonged hiatus, two key members are moving forward with their own music plans. Vocalist, James Michael and guitarist, DJ Ashba have launched a brand new project called Pyromantic.
The duo took to Facebook Live to announce that they are putting the finishing touches on an album’s worth of music. A release is expected later in the year. Speaking about the music, Michaels says, “It’s different from Sixx:A.M. in the sense we are choosing different subject matter to talk about. There are some heavy elements, but it’s also got these pop melodies. It’s some of the most special stuff I’ve ever heard. We’re very excited about that.”
Ashba added his thoughts, “We wanted to create something so new and fresh and create a sound for Pyromantic, so it has a very distinct sound. We went for a blend of dance, rock and pop, and that’s pretty much what it sounds like.”
So what exactly is the status of Sixx:A.M, the band which was formed in 2007 by MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx? Sixx himself hinted in recent interviews that he was planning on pursuing a number of different projects in 2018, none which included Sixx: A.M. Ashba concurred, “We’re basically on an indefinite hiatus. From day one, it was always a side project for all three of us. We did an extensive amount of touring and when we got off, we all felt like, ‘You know what? Let’s take a good break here and it gave everybody time to kind of go do their things, the separate things that we wanted to do.”
Next on the Pyromantic schedule is to film a video for its debut single which they say will take place”in a couple of weeks.” Regarding touring plans, Michael said: “We are not limited to just a rock audience, so there is a much broader spectrum of audiences that we can play for and a much broader spectrum of bands that we can actually tour with. That’s very exciting to us.” While no announcement has been made about other musicians that will be part of the band, Michael said, “We have a touring band already pretty much locked in, but we won’t announce that yet till we have a tour.”
Pyromantic’s debut effort will mark Ashba and Michael first collaboration since the release of Sixx:A.M ‘s album, ‘Vol. 2, Prayers For The Blessed,’ which arrived in November 2016.
