Motley Crue and Sixx A.M. bassist and Host of Sixx Sense With Nikki Sixx has announced he’s stepping down from hosting his syndicated radio program effective December 31st 2017. The final show will wrap what has been a nearly 8 year run for his show which began in February of 2010.
In a statement issued by the show’s producers, they thanked listeners for sharing the journey. “When ‘Sixx Sense’ began, it was our mission to not only entertain you but to make you think, cry and, yes, on occasion, cringe. Thank you for taking this journey with us, and allowing us to be part of your life.”
Sixx is leaving behind what has been a very successful radio franchise which included “The Side Show Countdown With Nikki Sixxx, “Sixx Sense With Nikki Sixx” and “The Side Show Classic With Nikki Sixx” all of which were carried by the iHeartRadio/Premiere Networks.
Sixx Sense was the largest syndicated rock show in the U.S. – carried on more than 130 stations with close to 3 million weekly listeners. During his time behind the mic, Sixx interviewed an array of rock super-stars including Metallica, Slash, Sir Paul McCartney, Steven Tyler and Stevie Nicks. Additionally, Sixx, who’s a big supporter of new music, used the platform to help launch the careers of hand-picked up and comers like Greta Van Fleet, Nothing More and Awolnation.
Premiere Networks president Julie Talbott says she’s proud of the work done over the span of many years. “When we first partnered with Nikki in 2010, we set out to create a unique program from the perspective of true rock star, and that’s exactly what we did. We’re proud of the work we did together to make ‘Sixx Sense’ one of the most widely syndicated rock radio programs in the country while establishing the ultimate platforms for rock music fans, as well as new and established artists. It’s been a pleasure working with Nikki, and we wish him all the best.”
For his part, Sixx says hosting his radio program was beyond his wildest dreams. “I grew up discovering music on the radio,” Sixx explains. “So to host my own show over the nearly eight years of ‘Sixx Sense’ was beyond my wildest dreams. I could not have done it without my amazing team in the studio, or the guests, musicians, and listeners that brought the show to life. It’s been an inspirational journey and I’ll always be a fan of the medium, but it’s time to shift gears outside the realm of solely radio. I’m in the process of developing new and unique programming and ventures across multiple platforms. But I’m really gonna miss ‘Sixx Sense’.”
His resignation makes room for a slew of other projects Sixx is involved with including the Broadway adaptation of his bestselling memoir The Heroin Diaries: A Year In The Life Of A Shattered Rockstar”. The production will feature music from Sixx A.M’s “The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack” and involve the collaboration of former Live Nation chairman Michael Cohl.
Sixx is also appearing in “The Launch” the Canadian television talent show in which he, along with Shania Twain, Fergie, Boy George, Julia Michaels, Alessia Cara and Jennifer Nettles, will mentor unsigned talent and guide them in the crafting of a hit song.
