After taking one year off, Heavy Montreal, one of the top festivals in Canada is back this upcoming weekend.
This year’s highlights includes Avenged Sevenfold, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Gojira, Emperor, and many more, enticing promoters to claim the lineup to be one of the best. But there are many reasons to be in attendance.
Aside from the known bands, there are a slew of acts that have made their mark in the genre, that might be less known: Napalm Death, Between The Buried And Me, Trivium, Eyehategod, Power Trip, The Black Dahlia Murder, Veil Of Maya, Asking Alexandria, are some of these acts.
Another feature almost unique to Heavy Montreal – the two main stages operate on a rotation system that means one band only starts when the next one finishes. You’re unlikely to miss your favourite band. Even the other two stages are timed in a way that enables you make your way around and catch pieces of different sets pretty easily – made all the more simple by what is a relatively intimately sized festival given the size of the bands playing.
The party doesn’t only take place at Parc Jean Drapeau: If you’re in town the night before, head to Foufounes Electriques for a special ‘Heavy En Ville’ gig featuring Miss May I, Archspire, First Fragment and more. There’s also an official Heavy Montréal Day 1 afterparty in the city, featuring a bonus set from Perturbator.
Finally, with a ticket price of $165CAD, you can see the biggest and best bands in metal without breaking the bank. Especially attractive proposition for those coming from the US or non-Canadian cities. This leaves you with lots of extra cash to spend in one of Canada’s most exciting cities, Montreal.
